The symbolism of a playground slide

The smallest one came out after bedtime, as she does, and said she couldn’t sleep because she was having a bad dream: she stood at the top of a tunnel slide, with two branches. She went one direction, and her older sister went the other. Her direction was a dead end and closed off. She couldn’t get out, and she couldn’t go back up. She knew this, but every time she kept choosing the same slide.

She went back to bed while Hubs and I let that absorb.
Hubs: Do you think this is foreshadowing her life? She’s going to choose the wrong path, end up in a dead end while J chooses the right path?
Me: Like she’s knowingly making the wrong choices in life?
Hubs: Yeah.
Me: Probably. But I bet it’s going to be one heck of a ride.

This weekend I’m heading to Charlotte, NC to attend “Pool School.” It’s a two day intensive on the form and technique of freestyle. I’m so excited, but also a little nervous as this is my last hail mary for swimming. If I can’t make some major improvements after this, then we really need to accept that I’m a fair-to-middlin’ swimmer and no more than that.

I told the kids about it and J laughed out loud, “you’re going to look so silly learning how to swim with a bunch of kids! You’re probably going to be the only adult!”

Thank you for your words of encouragement and no, it’s for adults.

The next weekend I have my first race of the season! This is a local sprint distance that’s always a ton of fun. It’s like homecoming, all the usual competitors show up who you haven’t seen for the last several months. Everyone has new gear and shows off new bikes and wetsuits. It’s a good time.

Two weeks after that I’ll race my first, and maybe only half IronMan of the season in Chattanooga. After that I’ll focus on the Kinetic Cup series again. Because it’s so fun, and because I placed 2nd last year. My goal was to be on the cup, but now I need to bump it up a little and aim for first. The prize was this cool medal holder and matching cycling apparel. Obviously, so worth it. But really, 2nd…
